PARSEC
SkyTitan’s PARSEC program is an advanced program that pairs participants with professional scientists or Astronomy professors. These professionals not only share their research with participants, but they engage participants to be actively involved with the research process. PARSEC collaborations typically involve research data acquired by some of the largest telescopes in the world. These active collaborations also assist participating institutions in acquiring time on these instruments. Recent projects have paired high school students with astronomers in Australia to gain image data from 2 meter class telescopes located in Hawaii. Results from these collaborations have enabled students to be published in professional journals and in findings that have contributed to the rewriting of astronomical data. The PARSEC program provides a vehicle through which many institutions can facilitate a “Citizen Science” endeavor.
